Epsom Community Creche

Epsom Community Crèche, operating in the heart of Epsom for over 30 years, is a vibrant, community-based early childhood centre that provides care and education for children from the age of two. Many children start their early childhood education journey with us, enjoying our sessions that are short in length and big on activity, before stepping up to longer days at our local kindergartens and childcare centres. We’re unique in that our Crèche is one of the only local sessional early childhood centre that offer morning sessions to children from the age of two years old.

About us

The Crèche’s three teachers, two for each session, supported by parent helpers, offer children a nurturing environment as they take their first steps into the wider world.

We offer a wide variety of activities and equipment for play in art and painting, music, books, puzzles, familyplay, play dough, sand and water, nature/science, and outdoor physically active play.  During the session opportunity exists for group, parallel and individual play.  Whilst children are free to select their own activities, they are encouraged to get involved, to persevere and complete tasks, and to try new things.

Our programme is planned to foster the development and creativity of each child.  Play and learning are self-paced and self-directed, with children being guided and encouraged through activities.  Positive values such as sharing, caring and co-operation with others are fostered.

The Crèche programme is based on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki.  Through our weekly “What Has Been Happening” poster, emergent group learning stories, discussions with our parents, and your children's portfolios, we aim to share with parents some of the learning that is taking place.

Parent information

Parent help is essential for the smooth running of the Crèche.  We ask parents (or the child's grandparents, relatives or caregivers) to sign up for one parent help per term for each weekly session the child attends, i.e. if your child attends two sessions per week, we ask that you help out at the Crèche twice a term.

When on parent help duty you will be expected to complete tasks such as preparing the children's morning tea and light lunch so that the staff are able to concentrate on the supervision and teaching of the children.

At Epsom Community Crèche we emphasise the importance of our relationship with parents and families.  Because of this we benefit from a supportive community of families who enhance our Crèche in a unique way.

A roster is made available prior to each new term for parents to indicate the sessions that they are able to help.
