WELL BEING (MANA ATUA)
Children’s health, enjoyment and emotional well-being is protected and nurtured. Teachers view children as capable, competent learners and respect them. Learning programmes are inclusive and adaptive. If children have special individual needs our teachers will work in partnership with families to ensure that the best possible programme is in place.
BELONGING (MANA WHENUA)
Children and their families feel a sense of belonging, and can forge connections with the wider community. Each kindergarten has reassuringly familiar routines and customs, and children are clear on acceptable behaviour. Our kindergartens welcome parents and whãnau to join in, and often host special events like trips and shared lunches.
CONTRIBUTION (MANA TANGATA)
Generous opportunities for learning are provided for every child, and teachers work hard to ensure each child’s contribution, and their culture and identity, are equally valued. Working together is supported, and children are also empowered to follow their interests, and to understand their own ways of learning and being creative.
COMMUNICATION (MANA REO)
Children are empowered to contribute both verbally and non-verbally about their ideas, and interests, and to build relationships. They develop different ways to be creative and expressive, and experience a wide range of cultures. Language is developed through stories, books, writing, conversations, art, drama, dance, mathematics, movement, rhythm, rhyme and music.
EXPLORATION (MANA AOTUROA)
Children are encouraged to learn and develop theories through active exploration of their natural, social, physical, and material environments. Spontaneous play is valued as meaningful learning, and exploration is guided, supported, and challenging. Respect for the environment is encouraged, and children gain confidence in and control of their bodies.
